UPDATE January 14, 2021

Owners, Customers of Cornerstone Co-op,

Yesterday, a Cornerstone Co-op team member at the St. Paul Food Store Pharmacy reported a COVID-19 positive result and is at home isolating while awaiting recovery. We worked with AHS contact tracers to reach out to all team members who may have been in close contact.

As a result, our Pharmacy is temporarily closed while the affected team members isolate and receive tests. We have a plan to safely re-open and will provide updates through our social media channels. From previous occurrences, all but 2 of our teammates have recovered and are safely integrated back to normal work duties.

Your local Co-op continues to provide essential goods during the COVID-19 pandemic, while working to protect the health and safety of our members, customers and team. We appreciate our customers mask integrity and continued support.

UPDATE January 4, 2021

Owners, Customers of Cornerstone Co-op,

Today we report an additional 2 Cornerstone Co-op team members test positive for COVID-19. Over the weekend an employee at the Elk Point Food Store shared a positive test result and an employee at the Vermilion Bulk Petroleum Station was isolating prior to the test result and has made a full recovery.

Both locations have undergone our mandatory deep-cleaning process and close contact review to minimize infection risk and ensure team member and public safety. All but 3 of our affected teammates are recovered and able to safely integrate back to normal work duties. We’ll continue to provide updates through social media channels.

I hope everyone had a special Christmas and I wish you a healthy, happy new year as we turn the corner on this pandemic into a fresh year full of high hopes and optimism.

Today we report 3 new positive cases confirmed at Cornerstone locations. There is a 1 positive case confirmed at Mannville Food location and we are temporarily closing the store.

UPDATE

DEC 1, 2020

Owners, Customers of Cornerstone Co-op,

Just over a week ago we communicated our plan for mandatory masks for customers and our decision to require masks in our St. Paul and Elk Point locations when the County moved to the enhanced risk and restriction level.

Today, the Counties of Vermilion River and Minburn, and the Municipal District Wainwright are now at the enhanced risk and restriction level, so we have made the decision to follow the provincial government regulations around capacity, as well as require masks for customers in those locations effective Wednesday, Dec 2, 2020.

We’re confident that our already high standards for cleaning, mask-wearing, and physical distancing efforts minimize any customer or colleague contamination, and we’ll continue to prioritize your health and safety. When the threat level changes, we will re-evaluate the situation.

We are committed to the steps we need to take across all locations to help our team, owners, and communities stay safe and healthy, now more than ever. We appreciate your patience as we work through these steps and for the support and trust you’ve shown during the pandemic.

Please review the interactive Alberta COVID map for risk classification that we use to monitor our communities.

As you’d expect, our focus is to do everything we can for our team members. To protect our community, we took the following actions:

2.

UPDATE: NOV 23, 2020

Owners and Customers of Cornerstone Co-op,
Since COVID-19 presented itself over 8 months ago, your Cornerstone Co-op has met weekly to discuss how we can best support our communities and employees during this time.

We implemented
• exclusive shopping hours for seniors and those with vulnerable health conditions;
• physical distancing signage and screens;
• enhanced delivery programs for food & building supplies; and
• taken the appropriate measures to keep our team and communities safe.

With confirmed cases growing and as cases spike in some of Cornerstone communities, the current COVID-19 situation across Alberta demands we prepare a plan for mandatory masks for customers to reduce increased spread.

In our weekly discussions, we determined that when a County reaches an enhanced risk and restriction level risk by Alberta Health, we require mandatory masks for all customers at locations in that County and trading area.

The County of St Paul has reached this enhanced risk and restriction level, and a Required Customer Mask implementation is underway at all St Paul and Elk Point locations effective Tuesday, Nov 24th with a Recommended Customer Mask in all other locations for now.

We’re confident that our already high standards for cleaning, mask-wearing, and physical distancing efforts minimize any customer or colleague contamination and we’ll continue to prioritize your health and safety. When the threat level changes, we will re-evaluate the situation.

March 17, 2020

Your Cornerstone Co-op understands our role, the expectations, and steps we need to take across all locations to help our team, owners, and communities stay safe and healthy.

All our locations are cleaned and sanitized daily as part of normal business, but we have increased the frequency of cleaning, especially around high-touch areas including shopping carts and baskets at food stores and pumps and door handles at gas bars.
We’re working with our team members to ensure they have current information on prevention so they can stay healthy and continue to serve. Team members are also asked to stay home if they are feeling ill or have been exposed to the virus directly.

While the risk is still low, we have temporarily suspended food and alcohol sampling and closed the hot food bars and salad bars. Pre-packaged hot and salad items are available for your convenience. Gravity-fed bulk fixtures remain, but bulk scoop bins are not available at this time. Our bakery staff is happy to serve you what you need and package it for you. We have paused our Wine Club Events until further notice.

Prices on all essential items will remain stable throughout this challenging time and we will enforce purchase limits to ensure those who are in real need have access. We currently have stock of essentials and anything we’re out of, we’ll restock as soon as we can.

These practices are informed by Alberta Health Services, Health Canada and the World Health Organization. We’re also encouraging all customers and members to keep informed on prevention by visiting Health Canada, WHO and other helpful resources.

Given the guidance we’ve received from these agencies, as well as our own preparedness efforts, we believe that we’re taking the right steps to ensure that your Cornerstone Co-op stores are safe.
Thank you for your patience and for being a loyal Co-op customer and member. We’ll continue to update you as the situation evolves on our media channels: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Web. Please contact us if you have any questions.
