March 31, 2020

The Covid-19 situation continues to evolve rapidly in our communities and locations. In recent weeks, we've asked so much of our front-line teams and I want to thank each one of our 460 team leaders and team members for their efforts over the past number of challenging weeks. Since the escalation of the COVID-19 virus, we have been blown away by the dedication and thoughtfulness of our hardworking team.
To recap our efforts over the past few weeks to ensure health and safety is paramount during our Co-op experiences we have implemented:
Enhanced our Food Delivery Program in our communities.
• Limited the number of customers in our store.
We ask, one shopper per household.
• Not accepting Returns
at this time in our Food Stores.
Created a Cornerstone Pandemic Committee.
• Postponed Family Day, Scratch and Save Food Events
• Installed Cashier Pay-point Screen (Plexiglass)
as a strong safety precaution.

We continue to apply these established efforts:

• Exclusive shopping hours for seniors and those with vulnerable health conditions in Food and Home & Agro Centres.
• Limits on our high-volume products.
• Around the clock shelf-stocking.
• Social Distancing signage & floor decals to remind customers to keep a safe distance from one another.
• Non-cash payment options to reduce contact.
• Limited hours of operation in all locations to allow our team members to re-stock our shelves while continuing to place a higher emphasis on social distancing in our stores.
• Enhanced cleaning and sanitization schedules in all locations focusing on high touch areas are being disinfected throughout the day.
• Bistro Seating areas and Self-Serve food station closures in Food Stores & C-Stores. Temporary discontinuation of refills and use of personal cups at beverage stations.
• Temporary suspension of our Reusable Bag Program.
• Support for our team members who are unwell and/or have cold/flu-like symptoms
• Cancellation of all upcoming Co-op events and in-store programing including postponing Annual General Meeting to a future date.
Our team is doing a heroic job ensuring we are providing an Outstanding Co-op Experience in these challenging and uncertain times to all of our Owners and customers. Thank you for your patience and for being a loyal Co-op customer and member. We’ll continue to update you as the situation evolves on our media channels: FB, Twitter, Instagram.

Your Cornerstone Co-op understands our role, the expectations, and steps we need to take across all locations to help our team, owners, and communities stay safe and healthy.
All our locations are cleaned and sanitized daily as part of normal business, but we have increased the frequency of cleaning, especially around high-touch areas including shopping carts and baskets at food stores and pumps and door handles at gas bars.
We’re working with our team members to ensure they have current information on prevention so they can stay healthy and continue to serve. Team members are also asked to stay home if they are feeling ill or have been exposed to the virus directly.
While the risk is still low, we have temporarily suspended food and alcohol sampling and closed the hot food bars and salad bars. Pre-packaged hot and salad items are available for your convenience. Gravity-fed bulk fixtures remain, but bulk scoop bins are not available at this time. Our bakery staff is happy to serve you what you need and package it for you. We have paused our Wine Club Events until further notice.
Prices on all essential items will remain stable throughout this challenging time and we will enforce purchase limits to ensure those who are in real need have access. We currently have stock of essentials and anything we’re out of, we’ll restock as soon as we can.
These practices are informed by Alberta Health Services, Health Canada and the World Health Organization. We’re also encouraging all customers and members to keep informed on prevention by visiting Health Canada, WHO and other helpful resources.
Given the guidance we’ve received from these agencies, as well as our own preparedness efforts, we believe that we’re taking the right steps to ensure that your Cornerstone Co-op stores are safe.
Thank you for your patience and for being a loyal Co-op customer and member. We’ll continue to update you as the situation evolves on our media channels: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Web. Please contact us if you have any questions.
