National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2024
ActionsCelebrating Indigenous Culture and Community Involvement
As we approach September 30, 2024, Cornerstone Co-op reaffirms its dedication to building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities through continued learning, action, and support. This past year, we have made significant strides in fostering understanding and inclusivity, underscoring our purpose of "Making Life Better in Our Communities."
Our team has actively engaged in various educational initiatives aimed at deepening our knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, and the ongoing journey of reconciliation. Over the past few years, team members have dedicated their time to learning through programs such as:
- 4 Seasons of Reconciliation certificate – 6 people completed, contributing 18 hours of learning
- Diversity and Inclusion: The Basics Workshop – 3 people completed, totaling 18 hours
- The Respectful Workplace – 23 people completed, adding 69 hours of training
These educational milestones are part of our larger commitment to truth and reconciliation, as we actively engage in community partnerships and events that highlight Indigenous culture and support Indigenous-led initiatives.
As we look back on the past year, we’d like to share some key events and moments that have defined our journey.
Frog Lake Pow Wow (May 30, 2024): We were honored to host a BBQ during the event, serving over 700 students, staff, and guests. The proceeds were donated to the St. Paul Education Regional Division (SPERD).
Saddle Lake Pow Wow (June 21, 2024): As an event sponsor, we were invited to attend the opening ceremonies of the Saddle Lake Pow Wow, demonstrating our continued support for Indigenous culture and traditions.
