Alberta’s First Western Nations Gas Bar Breaks Ground in Saddle Lake First Nation

Cornerstone Co-op is proud to celebrate an exciting milestone in our region as Saddle Lake First Nation breaks ground on Miscihk’s Country Market, the first Western Nations Gas Bar in Alberta.

The new Indigenous-owned and operated gas bar and convenience store will be located along Highway 36 in Saddle Lake First Nation. The development will create new employment and economic opportunities within the community while providing a new service for residents and travellers.

A Local Partnership

Miscihk’s Country Market is being developed through the Western Nations Gas Bar Program, which supports Indigenous-owned and operated fuel businesses across Western Canada.

Cornerstone Co-op has been proud to support the development of this partnership and, once operational, will supply Miscihk’s Country Market with Co-op fuel.

While the site will be independently owned and operated by Saddle Lake First Nation, the partnership represents an important opportunity to support Indigenous economic development within our trading area.

About Western Nations

Western Nations Gas Bars are Indigenous-owned and operated, independently run businesses fuelled by Co-op. Participating locations have access to Co-op's established fuel network, high-quality products and operational resources while maintaining independent ownership.

Through the program, participating communities can also benefit from the Community Building Program, which directs funding based on fuel sales back toward community infrastructure, programming and events.

The groundbreaking of Miscihk’s Country Market marks an exciting first for Alberta and an important milestone for Saddle Lake First Nation and Cornerstone Co-op.
